Brent's Place 'workshop"

Brent's Place 'workshop 01 Dec 2016

Each year we get a taste of what it must be like to work in Santa’s workshop.  Behind the scenes, over 40 groups, companies, and individuals work to provide a holiday of extreme proportions to the Brent’s Place families.  Our goal is to change the narrative from “the year I celebrated Christmas sick (or my child was sick) and away from home” to “one of the best Christmas’ my family and I ever had.”

Changing a narrative of this magnitude is not an easy endeavor, but the community of support that surrounds the Brent’s Place families makes it possible.

Groups were able to choose between adopting an entire family, purchasing items from a wish list, or sponsoring portions of the holiday.

Every family at Brent’s Place was provided gifts from their wish list, a full holiday meal from Whole Foods (sponsored by holiday donors through donations and/or whole foods gift cards), a collection of gift cards to purchase needed items, and the chance to “shop” in the holiday boutique for their family members.

The holiday gift distribution happens on one day between 12pm and 4pm.  The family’s sign up for their shifts to pick up gifts, volunteer wrappers are scheduled, and the kids get an afternoon of Christmas movies and hot chocolate!

With the help of volunteers, the Brent’s Place parents are provided the gifts that have been purchased for them from their wish lists and then get to decide if they want to wrap them on their own or have our volunteers help get them Christmas morning ready.  All gifts are distributed in large oversized gift bags.

Brent's Place staff picks up the holiday meals from Whole Foods on Christmas Eve.  Thanks to all our amazing holiday meal sponsors, every meal was been paid for!

The meals were delivered on Friday evening with the stockings (again thank you!) for families to enjoy the holiday as a family in their apartments.  No staff or volunteers are present on Christmas so that families can focus on what is important, each other.  Thank you for making that possible.
